Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said it was the voice of every patriotic Pakistani that such charity of outsiders should be rejected which brings dishonour to the country and entails bloodshed of innocent people, violation of aerial space of the country and force it to obey the command of others.
He said that Punjab government had decided to give up the alms of outsiders and though it was a difficult decision but history was witness to the fact that only those nations are successful which do not make any compromise on their honour and have the courage to take tough decisions.
He stated they were out to save the honour of the country and were ready to make any sacrifice to prove to the world that they could live without charities. He said that no burden would be put on the common man in the next budget and by adopting austerity, indigenous resources would be developed and maximum funds would be utilised on public welfare projects.
He was talking to assembly members of various districts regarding budget session at Civil Secretariat, here Tuesday. Provincial Ministers and advisors were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that elected representatives are being thoroughly consulted in the preparation of provincial budget and various committees comprising peoples' representatives are bring constituted for fixing the priorities regarding public-welfare projects.
He said that poor were playing an important role in the development of industrial, trade, agriculture and other sectors and as it is not possible to place additional burden on them, therefore, the elite will have to make sacrifices. He stated that it had been decided with the consultation of Quaid PML-N, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the party not to take such aid, which was in violation of national sovereignty. He said that in order to make the country strong and robust, reliance on foreign aid would have to be shed.
He said that 35,000 Pakistanis were martyred in the war on terror out of which 5000 were army jawans and their children. He said that despite all these sacrifices Pakistan is not being trusted and it is being taken as a slave state. He said that it was the voice of every Pakistani from Khyber to Karachi to get rid of the life of dishonour.
He said what could be more disgraceful than the fact that despite unanimous resolution of the parliament, drone attacks are still continuing. He said that drone attacks were resulting in the death of innocent Pakistanis and were aggravating the problem of terrorism.
He mentioned that economic and political independence could only be achieved by turning down the charity of outsiders. He said that Saudi Arabia, China, Iran and Turkey were the real friends of Pakistan and had stood by us through thick and thin. He said that after nuclear tests, Saudi Arabia extended all out co-operation to Pakistan and supplied free of cost oil for three years.
He said that China had also executed innumerable projects in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was passing through the most critical phase of its history and facing a number of problems. He said that the goal of self-reliance would have to be achieved for regaining the lost status of the country.
He stated that loans of $63billion dollars were taken during the last 63 years and had half of this sum been spent on the development of Pakistan, the situation would have been different. He said that national resources were looted under the former government and those who robbed Punjab Bank and NICL of billions of rupees besides looting national resources, have been rewarded with ministries.
He said that how could a society survive in such conditions. On the contrary, he said, transparency is the hallmark of the Punjab government and every penny of public money is being utilised in a transparent manner. He said that no hurdle could deter living nations and the goal of progress and prosperity could be achieved with strong determination.
Members of provincial assembly paid rich tributes to Quaid PML-N and Chief Minister Punjab on taking the bold decision of giving up foreign aid and said that they had represented the sentiments of 180 million people of Pakistan by taking this step.
