Exports from Karachi Export Processing Zones (KEPZ) showed a record growth of 34 percent during the month of May 2011. According to the statistics released by EPZA, exports during the period under review stood by 34 percent higher at over US $31.951 as compared to US $23.802 million in the corresponding month of May 2010.
Overall exports from EPZA remained 30 percent higher during July-May 2010-11 as compared to the corresponding period of 2009-10. During the period, exports from EPZA were US $497.672 as compared to the preceding period of July-May (2009-10) where exports were US $383.979 million. EPZA expects to bring the cumulative export for the financial year ending June, 2011 to US $540 million, an increase of US $100 million over the preceding year. It is geared to cross US $1.00 billion targeted in next two years.
This significant growth in exports reflects the confidence of investors on EPZA and its policies. It also indicates that EPZA is doing well to fulfil its mandate to enhance the exports. In the economic growth of the country, performance of EPZA has been a substantial contribution.-PR
