President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir has expressed her concern over rising number of people being gunned down in Balochistan. In a statement issued here on Monday, Asma said hardly any culprit has been apprehended or convicted for these grave crimes.
The target killing of Professor Sabad Dashtiari, senior member of the faculty of the University of Balochistan was tragic as he was a respected intellectual and was author of a number of books. Target killings in Balochistan is being carried out across the board on ethnic lines.
She said although the province is awash with the presence of security forces and checkpoints, violence continues and innocent civilians as well as security forces themselves are not safe. It is the obligation of the state to investigate these crimes effectively and bring the perpetrators to justice. Asma said, these reports appear to be credible and the Parliament must debate this issue and find solutions to bring some stability in Balochistan.
