Islamabad Police committed to ensuring protection of human rights: IGP

Islamabad Police is committed to ensure protection of human rights and it will be made more tolerant towards criminals and civilians in accordance with the laws, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani here on Thursday.
Islamabad Police officers and officials would be educated about dealing with issues related to human and child rights, the IGP said, while addressing the awards ceremony for 300 Peer Educators under "Police Training and Capacity Building for Democracy and Human Rights Project" at Police line Headquarters.
DIG Ahmed Mukaram, DIG Security Dr Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, SSP Headquarters Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SP Headquarters Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani, SP Special Branch Jameel Hashmi, DSP Ashraf Shah and other police officials were also present on the occasion. As many as 5,000 personnel of police will be educated about protection of child and human rights during the training so that their skills will be further polished as well as attitudes to be improved to enable them for dealing effectively and comfortably while working with communities and children.
The IGP expressed his joy at the initiative to educate employees of Islamabad Police. He stressed upon the need to educate all sectors of society and implement the learning's in the everyday life of the police to make them more tolerant towards criminals and civilians in accordance with the human rights laws.
He ensured his full support to the project. This project is supported by the European Commission, Plan Sweden and implemented by Plan Pakistan and SPARC. The training was held in collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Territory Police under the supervision of Muhammad Zubair Hashmi, SSP (HQ).
The main aim of the project was to ensure that the police force realise the importance of human and child rights and gain the trust of the citizens by being sensitive to the rights violation issues faced by them. Director Plan Pakistan Haider Waseem Yaqub-Country and Programme Support Manager-Plan Pakistan Farrah Naz, praised the efforts of Islamabad police to maintain peace and security in the city.
They said that Plan Pakistan focuses on child and human rights and declared the trainees ambassadors of the oppressed, and encouraged them to come up with innovative ideas to rid the society of oppressors and child rights violators. The trainees expressed their gratitude and happiness over the initiative taken by Plan Pakistan and SPARC.
