Pakistan women's cricket players have expressed the need of their cricket matches whether domestic or international to be telecast live to promote the women's sports in the country. Pakistan women's cricket team captain Sana Mir told APP, "We defeated Sri Lanka at the last ball and Ireland beat Netherlands by a single run in the Quadrangular T-20 championship."
"If these matches were telecasted live, cricket fans would have found it interesting to watch women's cricket," she said.
Sana said that women cricketers are no less than men as they brought the first Asian Games gold medal held last year in China.
"It was due to our hard work and devotion to the game. Women's cricket over the years has transformed into a specialised sport, which requires full time commitment.
She said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was supporting women's cricket a lot and the central contracts show commitment of the board to promote the game in the country.
Sana, was the Player of the Tournament at the 2008 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier, and currently ranks 16th in the ICC Women's ODI bowlers rankings. Meanwhile Pakistan women player Nain Abidi told APP that there is need of international women coaches as women can understand women better than men.
She said that the central contracts awarded to them were a great achievement for women cricketers of the country.
"The Pakistan Sports Board (PCB) is also regularly having domestic competitions for women players and that is improving our standard," she said. She said that women cricketers need encouragement and compensation for hardwork.
