Punjab Provincial Co-operative Bank Ltd is advancing loans of Rs 3 billion through co-operative societies to small farmers for 2011-2012 Kharif crops cotton, rice, sugarcane, vegetables, fodders etc. Secretary Co-operatives Punjab Khalid Pervaiz said here on Wednesday.
With these loans, the farmers can buy seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and agriculture implements etc so that they could bring maximum area under cultivation and increase per acre yield of their crops. PPCBL management held a meeting here on Wednesday to evaluate the performance of the co-operative bank. It was attended by Secretary Co-operative, Registrar Co-operative Mohammad Khan Khichi and additional secretary co-operative Malik Abdullah Shahid.
The meeting reviewed the recovery of loans advanced to farmers for the 2010-2011 Rabi crops through the co-operative societies and personal "Zarai pass books" and directed the field staff to recover these loans on priority basis. The meeting further directed the field staff to complete issuance of loans for Kharif crops till 30th June 2011 so that maximum number of farmers could benefit from these loans.
