Supreme Court defers Shahbaz's eligibility case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday deferred till June 7 hearing of a constitutional petition questioning electoral eligibility of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. A three-Judge bench headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan put off hearing due to non-availability of Justice Javed Iqbal and told petitioner Shahid Orakzai that the Registrar office would apprise them about fixation of the case on next date.
In his petition, Orakzai had contended that Shahbaz Sharif won election on PP-48 Bhakkar and became the chief minister of Punjab but afterwards, without resigning from the same constituency, Shahbaz Sharif contested election on PP-10 Rawalpindi and was elected unopposed. Later on, he resigned from this constituency.
