Billions of rupees have been spent in the capital on the construction of new avenues and highways to facilitate smooth traffic flow but little attention is being paid to the safety of pedestrians by erecting overhead bridges at the busy roads.
Residents of Sector G-8, G-7 and F-8, G-11, I-8, G-6, G-9 and Barakahu have been demanding of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install pedestrian bridges at various points on busy Faisal Avenue, Muree road, 9th avenue, 7th avenue, I. G Principal road, Islamabad Highway and Kashmir Highway.
According to Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), many people have lost their lives and got injured during the last year, while crossing highways in absence of necessary pedestrian bridges. Worse case scenario is witnessed during peak hours at various locations when students, women and elderly people keep waiting for long time to safely cross the roads.
Residents of Barakahu have been demanding since long to install overhead bridges near Dhoke Jillani, Main Athaal Chowk and Baharapull to prevent accidents taking place every day. Similarly, the residents of Sector G-8 and G-7 daily go through painstaking situation, while safely crossing Faisal Avenue. Important offices like PIMS, NORI Hospital, 15-Office, schools and colleges are located at G-8 sector and hundreds of people daily cross the busiest and speedy Faisal Avenue by putting their lives in danger.
