The Intercity Bus Terminus located in the vicinity of Saddar and Lines Area has spoiled the educational and residential environment of the area. The status of the terminus was informed as 'illegal and unauthorised'.
It was stated in a report of an environmental study conducted by a team of researchers belonged to Karachi chapter of Pakistan Civic Society (PCS) issued here on Thursday.
In the comprehensive study all aspects of the environmental and civic issues of the subject were taken into account in the report. The so called Inter-City Bus Terminus as created severe problem of health and hygiene in the locality which is surrounded by hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, mosques, Imambargahs and residential units. Humdard University Hospital, Taj Medical Complex, Hashmani Hospital, Islamiat Girls College, Government Girls and Boys Schools are worth mentioning.
The traffic menace has made the life of the inhabitants miserable and practically a 'Curse'. The jumbo-size buses are parked in a large number which creates traffic jam in almost all the time during the day, the report says.
In fact, the bus terminus is used by the transport operators as their parking ground and open garage. The mechanical workshops located their further enhance the problem. Both parking of buses and workshops have covered the entrance of educational institutions. They produced big quantum of filth, dirty and refuse, which is dumped along with the roadside.
The parking of buses not only make it difficult to maintain smooth vehicular traffic-flow in the area but also make it most difficult for the pedestrians to walk to their destination. Both the roads, footpaths as well as the adjoining area is badly effected from the hazard of the bus terminus. The residents who were interviewed by the team of surveyors, have demanded immediate shifting of this illegal Inter-City Bus Terminus from the downtown.-PR
