The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking all possible measures to make the city clean and green, but the dream has not become a reality yet. During the month of April, the civic body launched drive to make the city clean, but the authority was paying more heed towards posh sectors and was continuously neglecting residential sectors like G-6/1, G-6/2, I-8, G-8 etc.
Chairman CDA, Imtaiz Inayat Elahi on Monday called upon the residents of the federal capital to join hands with the authority in making the city clean. The CDA chief not only appealed to the inhabitants to make the city clean and green, but also warned of imposing fine in case of violation.
He pleaded that clean environment was a sign of healthy and civilised societies in the world. He said that goal of neat and clean environment could be achieved by keeping houses, streets and surroundings neat and clean. "Islamabad is one of the most beautiful cities in the world which was developed with a proper planning. We have made the federal capital one of the cleanest cities in the country, but no municipality of the world can be successful to keep the city clean until there is active sense of participation by the residents of that city," he said.
The chairman CDA said anti-littering drive 2011 was launched to clean the streets, ravines, green belts, commercial centers, entertainment and recreational places and to inculcate a sense of participation and awareness among the residents for maintaining cleanliness, disposing of the litter and junks in an efficient manner etc.
He asked citizens to use dustbins and not to throw empty packets of juices, cigarettes beverage bottles on roads and properly dispose them of in dustbins being a responsible citizen of the federal capital.
He called upon the citizens to avoid wasting water and also appealed traders to properly dispose of junks of their respective shops and put waste of the shop outside while closing it during the night. He was of the view that wall-chalking portrays ugly picture of the city and instructed to avoid wall-chalking and pasting advertising material on the walls and signboards.
The chairman CDA informed the residents through open letter that under section 5(29) of CDA Environmental Protection Regulations, 2008, a person or persons would be fined for violating anti-littering law within the federal capital, Islamabad, and would be charged with Rs 50 to Rs 300 fine on the spot. However, the chairman CDA urged the citizens to cooperate with the authority in keeping the city clean. He urged the residents to submit their valuable suggestions and recommendations at Help Line 1334 to make the campaign successful.
