Khyber Pakhtunkhwa approves compensation plan for accident victims' heirs

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to pay compensation of Rs 0.1 million to the families of those died in accidents. The provincial cabinet approved the compensation plan during a meeting, which met here on Monday with Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti in the chair.
Briefing media about the decisions taken during the meeting, Provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein said a committee regarding law and order situation had been constituted in previous meeting of the cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary.
In that meeting, some members of the provincial cabinet have recommended some compensation to the families of those killed in accidents including electrocutions, gas suffocation, fall from walls, roofs and those lost lives in mines should be paid a compensation of Rs 0.1 million. The amount is though very meagre and is no alternative to human life, but the government had made an effort to support the families of such victims.
The cabinet approved the report. In this connection cases would be approved by a district committee comprising representatives of District Co-ordination Officer (DCO), Police and department of health. The processing of case would be completed in a period of one month.
The cabinet also approved separation of teaching and administrative cadres in education sector with the objective of lifting the standard of education and good governance in educational institutions. The meeting expressed profound grief and condemnation over Shabqadar suicide explosions that have claimed more than 80 lives. The cabinet offered fateha for the victims.
The minister said the government has started working on an Education Sector Plan in light of National Education Policy. Under the plan, he continued, access of every citizen to quality education would be ensured and the standard of education would be improved.
The meeting decided that government would support one private school each in two union councils of each district where government school does not exist. He said the decision will benefit thousands of students who receive free education in private schools and government will bear the expenses.
The meeting approved a plan of awarding financial assistance to position holders students of pubic sector schools and colleges. The top ten students in secondary school certificate and intermediate levels would get an assistance of Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 each, respectively for getting proper education in standard institutions. The government reserved an amount of Rs 50 million for the scheme.
The cabinet meeting also accorded approval to several schemes and measures for promotion of different sectors in the upcoming fiscal year 2011-12. In this regard, Mian Iftikhar Hussein said the cabinet approved Rs 1.3 billion Pakhtunkhwa Huner Mond Rozgar Scheme under which interest free loans would be provided to those skilled workers who wanted to establish their own business. Under the scheme, loans amounting up to Rs 0.3 million would be provided to skilled people.
