Former Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan on Monday said the country's strategic assets are safe and nobody could even dare think about reaching them. "It is not Osama's compound," he said while addressing the members of Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) on "After-Osama Bin Laden" here. "Our strategic assets are safe and it is impossible for any country including the US to reach there," he said. About India, he said, it also has no capability to do so.
He said after Osama's death, the situation has changed. "There are many questions remain unanswered and there are so many confusions need to be removed," he said. He said the government's response after Osama's killing was not co-ordinated. He suggested that the country's leadership - political, military, foreign experts and intellectuals - must sit together to discuss the issues and to give a guideline for the future.
Regarding the future of Pak-US relations, he was optimistic that things would be settled and improvement is expected on this front in days to come. On a question about the US operation, he said American forces used high tech helicopters and equipment in this operation. They may have used high tech devices to jam the radar system, he added.
On a question about intelligence failure to detect Osama bin Laden, he said there are so many examples in the world where many spy agencies had failed to act before any mishap. He said the CIA had failed to detect the network before the incident of 9/11. Despite having most modern technologies, the CIA had failed to detect many networks even after 9/11, he added. Dr Masooma Hassan, the head of PIIA also spoke on the occasion.
