The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly special committee for elimination of corruption and irregularities in the department of revenue was told the provincial government has decided the computerisation of the land record to minimise the powers of patwaris.
This was told by provincial ministers Arbab Mohammad Ayub Jan and Murid Kazim Shah to the committee while admitting irregularities in the buying and selling process of properties due to patwari system. The meeting of the committee constituted for proposing reforms and end to corruption in the department was held here with Speaker, Kiramatullah Khan in the chair.
Others who attended were included MPAs Abdul Akbar Khan, Saqibullah Khan Chamkani and Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota, said a press release issued here. During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on measures to be adopted for ending corruption in Revenue department and for making the land transfer procedure transparent.
They also apprised the participants that it has been decided to fully computerised record of Revenue department as a result of which role of Patwaris will be reduced and corruption will also end by entering data in computer on daily basis. The process of computerisation of Revenue record has been started in a phased manner and hopefully the practice of corruption in the department will end with the passage of time.
The meeting was also told that recommendations have been finalised for bringing revolutionary changes in functioning of Revenue department. These recommendations were already approved by the provincial cabinet.
Arbab Ayub Jan said to bring further improvement in the recommendations, these will be made public and suggestions would be sought from the masses. These recommendations were prepared in a period of two years and hopefully people will get a relief after implementation of these, he added.
During the meeting a list of assets of Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Patwaris, DORs and officials of Revenue department was also presented, but the participants did not review the list as details from some districts was missing. Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Kiramatullah Khan said present government has vowed for bringing revolutionary changes in Revenue department and the Special Committee of Provincial Assembly is playing very important role in this regard. The objective behind bringing change in Revenue department functioning is to provide relief to the masses who are being fleeced by Patwaris and other officials in the process of sale and purchase of land.
