Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif on Saturday advised the PPP-led coalition government to stop obeying the US as well as the agencies and said that the Prime Minister in consultation with the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly should immediately form Commission that could fix responsibility about the Abbottabad operation.
Supporting the demand of debate on military-agencies budget in the Parliament, the PML-N leader said: "The Charter of Democracy (CoD) provides that budget of army/ agencies would be presented in assembly and Select Committee of the House would decide how to use the public money."
Unfolding his party policy regarding Pak-US relations and the role of army and intelligence agencies, the PML-N chief said: "Foreign policy making is not the business of agencies, which must also not make alliance and divide political parties. PML-N will not allow government within government and security institutions must abstain from establishing a parallel government." He further said that parliament, and not the army, must decide about relations with the US, India and Afghanistan. He said that the parliament must play its role positively and effectively.
Talking about in-camera session of the parliament on Friday, the PML-N leader said that there was no expectation of any bold stance from those who felicitated the US in its Abbottabad operation. He said it was PML-N that got included the demands for an independent commission and suspension the Nato supply line in the draft resolution, in case US led drone attacks were not stopped. He added that the government's resolution in joint session was weak and the PML-N made it strong worded.
The PML-N leader said that he was not a critic of the army as an institution but he was against those who misused their position. He said the then Indian PM Vajpayee wanted to resolve the Kashmir issue in 1999 but the matter was sabotaged by triggering the Kargil conflict. He said that martial law was not imposed in Pakistan by the military but, just by four military generals.
The PML-N leader said that people wanted to know the facts regarding Abottabad operation but warned that nobody should indulge politics of accusation on this issue. To a query, he said the US Drones are taking off from the Shamsi airbase. To another question, he said the PML-N has not done any point scoring in the joint-session and asked all the questions which nation wanted to know. Nawaz also called for making the parliament supreme taking Friday's joint sitting as an example.
