Taiwan stocks up

Taiwan stocks closed up 0.15 percent on Thursday, the only market in the region not affected by a big sell-off in commodities, with car makers and retailers leading the index up. The main TAIEX index rose 13.28 points at 9,033.68, after opening 0.47 percent lower. The automobile and department stores sub-indices climbed 4.73 percent and 1.83 percent respectively.
Electronics shares also rose 0.5 percent, with HTC surging 5.53 percent. Finacials shed 1.06 percent. Pressured by energy and resource stocks, the majority of the Asian share markets fell on Thursday. At 0536 GMT, the MSCI index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan was down 1.49 percent, while Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 was off 1.04 percent.
