Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has said that Islamabad Police along with other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) have played courageous role in defeating terrorists, giving complete peace to people living in Federal Capital.
"Role of police force is vital for not only maintaining law and order situation, but also keeping an eye on terrorists and taking them to task," Malik said this while addressing the passing out parade of the 36th batch of specialised training programme of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs) held here at the National Police Academy (NPA).
Rahman stressed the need of friendly policing towards common man saying police modernisation is required not only in terms of better infrastructures, equipment and arms, but also in attitude and approach of police system.
Malik asserted that the role of police is very different from the central para-military forces as police is made to suit local people and they operate within the society. "It requires to be more human and respectful of citizen's liberty and dignity, he elaborated adding public should feel safe when they see police," he said.
The minister also lauded and praised the police for its hard work and dedication in maintaining law and order situation in the country. In his welcome address the Commandant of the NPA, Shabbir Ahmed said that overall 5,000 officers of various LEAs of the country which include Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Pakistan Rangers and Police have been trained in the academy.
He said that NPA is working on revamping of National Training Policy, developing a module on 'Interviewing Women and Children victims of violence' with the help of non-government organisation (NGO) ROZAN and conducting training need analysis of District Police Officer with the collaboration of ICITAP.
The minister reviewed the smartly turned out parade and awarded trophies to the distinguished cadets. At the end, the Minister gave coveted prize of all round best ASP to Tariq Walait, who also won the prize of best in Academics and best in discipline. The passing out batch consist of 37 officers, including four lady officers.
