Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq has said that all schools and colleges of the province would be closed for the summer vacations in the months of July and August this year instead of June and July.
Talking to journalists after presiding over the meeting of steering committee of Education Department here at the conference room of Sindh Assembly on Saturday, he said that the committee took the decision to observe summer vacation in July and August this year instead of June and July.
He said the steering committee received suggestions from civil society, government and private sectors that in wake of coming Holy month of Ramazan, the summer vacations should be rescheduled to facilitate the citizens. He said in view of these suggestions, the committee decided that the summer vacation in all schools and colleges of the province would be observed from July 1 to August 31, 2011 and the educational institutes would reopen after the Eid-ul-Fitar.
Pir Mazhar further said that the steering committee set up a committee consisting of three senior officers of the department including Acting Secretary Waeem Ursani, Director Private Institutions, Mansoob Ahmed Siddqui and Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Professor Anwar Ahmed Zai to take into confidence all the 'O' and 'A' level schools regarding the steering committee's decisions. He said that the chairmen of all educational boards had assured him that they would complete examination process in the month of May. Earlier, the steering committee of Sindh education department discussed different issues.
