Power situation improved substantially with increase in hydel power generation during the last 24 hours. Power generation stood at 12,411MW against a demand of 15,141MW, bringing the gap down to 2,730MW. Pepco sources said glacier meltdown improved with the rise in mercury across the country. According to the daily brief, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 4,341MW, 1,540MW, 6,468MW and 62MW respectively.
It may be noted that the Pepco MD had stated two days earlier that power situation would improve with better fuel supply to the thermal units. However, industrial consumers are still showing worries over the increasing gas load-shedding to their units. They say that absence of uninterrupted supply to the units, particularly those of the textile industry, has compelled Aptma to announce closing of 43 percent production capacity in Punjab. According to Pepco sources, only a constant supply of fuel to the thermal units and regular melting of glacier for hydel generation could save the country from unprecedented load-shedding ahead.
