At least three persons including an activist of Sunni Tehrik (ST) were gunned down in separate incidents, here on Thursday. According to details, an activist of ST was shot dead at Narain Pura Old City area within the limits of Eidgah police station. The incident took place at Narain Pura in the wee hours of Thursday, when 23-year-old Salam Uddin alias Shahzad Lahoti son of Mairaj Uddin Lahoti, a resident of Narain Pura, was targeted by unknown assailants.
Resultantly he received two bullets and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), for medico legal formalities. After getting the information, scores of ST workers and area leaders rushed to hospital and chanted slogan against government.
Following the said killing, tension engulfed many parts of the areas, including Lakhpati Chowk, Narain Pura, Ranchore Line, Punawala Streets, Burns Road, etc where miscreants resorted to aerial firing and forced shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
Meanwhile, the rangers reached the spot and opened fires to disperse the miscreants, which causing injuries to another ST worker namely Mahmood,25, son of Bundo Khan and a passer-by Shabbir. However, the rangers claimed to have arrested injured Mahmood and recovered a TT pistol from his possession.
A spokesman ST Faheem Sheikh confirmed that the victim was the activist of Unit-27 Ranchore Line sector. He condemned the killings of ST workers and demanded to the government to arrest the culprits. In another incident, an elder man was gunned down near Ghaghar Phattak Bin Qasim Town in the limits of Steel Town police station. The victim 63-year-old Karam Khan Jhokio son of Salman Jhokio, a resident of Achar Salar Goth Bin Qasim Town, was shot dead when he was standing outside his house.
Resultantly he received several bullets and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Police registered an FIR against unidentified men on the complaint of his relative and initiated probe in this connection. A four-day-old tortured body was found from Gulbai railway track in the remits of city railway police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. Police said the victim had several torture marks.
