Overseas shares traded in the United States rose on Friday as investors' risk appetite was boosted after major US stock indexes rose to their multi-year highs. The BNY Mellon index of leading American Depository Receipts (ADRs) rose 0.4 percent on Friday, while the US benchmark S&P 500 rose 0.2 percent. For the month of April, the ADR index was up 4.4 percent, compared with a 2.8 percent gain in the S&P 500.
The BNY Mellon index of leading Asian ADRs gained 0.4 percent, led by gains in financial stocks. Japan's Mizuho Financial Group was up 0.9 percent at $3.19 and South Korea's KB Financial rose 3.3 percent to $53.29. The BNY Mellon index of leading European ADRs was up 0.2 percent. In Europe, stocks inched higher, rallying for a seventh straight session and posting their best monthly performance since December, but volumes were light due to a UK public holiday for the royal wedding.
The BNY Mellon index of leading Latin American ADRs rose 1.1 percent. In Latin America, stocks rose as Brazilian stocks bounced higher after falling in the previous session to their lowest intraday level since mid-February. US-listed shares of Petroleo Brasil was up 1.1 percent at $37.33 and Vale shares rose 0.9 percent to $33.40.
