President Zardari felicitated Queen Elizabeth II after cutting the cake on her 85th birthday at a reception hosted in British High Commission on Friday. He also expressed best wishes for the newly-wed British royal couple Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton. Former Law Minister Babar Awan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar were also present there.
The reception was attended by a large number of officials from several foreign missions. They included US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter. A statement issued by British High Commissioner Adam Thomson says: this month sees not only Her Majesty The Queen's 85th Birthday, but also the wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton.
"The two happy events mark the start of a tremendously exciting period for the UK and the Commonwealth, which the world will be watching and celebrating with us. 2012 will be the Diamond Jubilee Year: the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's reign. It will also be the 60th anniversary when she became Head of the Commonwealth. In June next year, there will be celebrations across the Commonwealth to mark this anniversary."
