A Taiwan man has launched a computer programme designed to help wives catch cheating husbands and their mistresses, a newspaper report said on April 20. Huang Kuo-tai said his Catch Mistress Programme can detect a spouse's betrayal by monitoring their communications, the Apple Daily said.
The user types the suspect's mobile phone number into the programme, Huang explained, and the software then logs the time, duration and number of each call.
He said he designed the programme to help women catch unfaithful husbands, motivated by the number of marriages destroyed by men's infidelities.
"The smartest part is that my programme can analyse the calls and pick out suspicious calls," Huang was quoted as saying by the Apple Daily. "If a call lasts longer than 20 minutes, it will flash a warning sign to the wife."
The programme also monitors the conversation for words associated with extra-marital liaisons, such as "I love you," "Do you miss me," "I can't talk now" or "Pick me up."
The application can also monitor emails, scanning for large numbers of messages from any one correspondent, or suspiciously prompt replies to a certain address.
Huang said he wants to upgrade his Catch Mistress Programme to monitor online instant messaging systems such as MSN.
He said he was currently collecting feedback from test users and plans to allow the public to download the programme free of charge.
