Nishat is one of the leading and most diversified business groups in South East Asia with fixed/current assets of over Rs 300 billion (US $5 billion), it ranks among the top five business houses of Pakistan. Nishat has grown into a premium business group of Pakistan with five listed companies, concentrating of five core businesses:
Textile, Cement, Banking, Power Generation and Insurance. Today, Nishat is considered to be on a par with multinationals operating locally, in terms of the quality of its products and management skills. Nishat Group owns two power plants at Mehmood Kot District Muzaffargarh: LAL PIR Power Limited and Pak Gen Power Limited. Both plants were set up under the energy policy (1994) of the Government of Pakistan and have operated commercially since November 1997 and February 1998 respectively, with the installed capacity of 362 MW and 365 MW respectively.

LAL PIR/Pak-Gen, holds fast to the highest standards and strictly adheres to the EHS Policy for reliable operations and maintenance to protect the company, its stakeholders, the environment and the community in which it does business. LAL PIR has also executed numerous projects of around US $2.5 million in the fields of education, health, philanthropy, and development of infrastructure to raise the standard of living of the local community, under its social responsibility programme.
