ENGRO - BRINGING POSITIVE CHANGE TO PAKISTAN: As part of the company's enduring commitment towards improving the lives of its stakeholders, and especially host communities, Engro contributed over Rs 136 million under its social investments commitment in 2010, as compared with Rs 58 million in 2009.
In 2010, the company established the Engro Foundation to enhance the company's key corporate social responsibilities on a national and global level. The Foundation serves as a single platform where Engro affiliates can pool financial and managerial resources, thereby creating large-scale social impact.
The Foundation works towards developing sustainable societies where people have access to choices and opportunities for development. Major investments include education, healthcare, water and sanitation, with the main focus of activities being the communities in the vicinity of the company's manufacturing sites and supply chains. The Foundation also has employee volunteering programmes to support employees' efforts in their communities.
Engro's investments in education Engro has formed a partnership with the Sahara Welfare Trust and The Citizen's Foundation to develop educational facilities in the community around manufacturing facilities. The company has established a Training and Resource Center (TARC) to provide a dedicated resource for the training of teachers. In addition, Engro is supporting 11 schools in the Katcha (riverine belt) area along the Indus, as well as initiating a Government School Adoption programme. Engro has also established the 'Karachi School for Business and Leadership' in partnership with the Karachi Education Initiative (KEI) and Judge Business School (JBS), University of Cambridge.
Engro's investments in health Health is an integral component of Engro's values, and the company strives to ensure a better quality of life for its employees, their families, its host communities and the country as a whole. Engro has invested in subsidised clinics and specialised treatment centres.
The company continues to fund and maintain specialised centres for treatments as wide-ranging as snake-bite vaccine, thalassaemia, kidney dialysis, malaria control, polio immunisation and eye care.
