Pakistan Railways' land measuring 65 kanals 09 marla is under occupation of Pakistan Army Housing Directorate, Rawalpindi, Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour informed the National Assembly on Thursday.
In a written reply to the House, the minister said that there was no proposal to get the said land vacated; rather a proposal for mutual adjustment/swapping of the said land is under consideration.
He further said that the issue came under discussion during the last meeting held in the office of Deputy Director/Property and Land, Pakistan Railways, Rawalpindi with Colonel Amir Raja on December 11, 2010 who participated as the representative of Director General, Housing, General Headquarters
(GHQ) (Housing Directorate), Rawalpindi.
He further said that the issue was discussed in detail and the military representative produced a letter No 5631/343/19/Land-i dated 13-05-2008 addressed to Director/Property & Land, Pakistan Railways, Headquarters Office, Lahore, wherein it was mentioned that "Army land measuring 26.38 acres (ie 15.38 acres and 11 acres) was provided to Pakistan Railways for establishment of Dry Port at Lahore in September, 1972 and March, 1982 respectively.
The issue has been taken up with Pakistan Army for mutual settlement by Pakistan Railways, Headquarters Office, Lahore and a joint high level meeting is expected in near future in this respect, he added. He further said that there was no proposal under consideration to allot the said land to the civilian residents of that area by Pakistan Railways.
