Scientists strive to improve economy: Dr Samar

Renowned scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand said that efficient use of the abundant coal reserves in Pakistan alone can guarantee solution to the power woes of the country, adding that they could easily transform coal into gas and then into electricity, which would be far cheaper than rental power.
Dr Samar Mubarakmand expressed these views while delivering a lecture at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) here on Tuesday. NUST Science Society organised the event under its programme "Meet the Scientist" and a large number of students and academia attended the lecture.
The esteemed scientist was highly optimistic that the country would be on the way to progress through using its minerals resources. He pinpointed that the use of coal would not only ensure smooth power supply across the country, but would also help produce plastic, diesel and urea.
Dr Samar said, "Pakistan badly needs a contribution from engineers and scientists to develop and refine the processes for conversion of coal gas to diesel and separation of copper, gold, silver and cobalt from ores through efficient means. He lauded the role of NUST in producing competent scientists and researchers and urged the students to excel in the field of science and technology."
"Scientists are striving to improve the economy by exploiting tremendous wealth of the country that is embedded in its resources of coal, copper, gold, chromium and other metals," he said. It is fortunate for a nation like us to have educated and trained manpower that could be diverted towards exploration of natural resources for the betterment of the country`s economy, he maintained.
Rector engineer Muhammad Asghar thanked the legendary scientist for sharing some of his knowledge and experience with the science students at the university. While referring to the great services rendered by the scientist for his country, the Rector said that Dr Samar is a role model for the nation especially for students. He stressed upon the students to take keen interest in their studies and ensure a brighter future for Pakistan.-PR
