Clerical staff of different government departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday observed token strike and boycotted from attending their duties against the non-implementation of their charter of demands. The attendance of clerical staff in most of the government departments remained thin for several hours.
The call of the strike was given by All Pakistan Government Employees Confederation. In this connection, a huge rally was held in Government Higher Secondary School No-I Peshawar City. Hundreds of protesting employees led by Ashfaq Hussein Bacha, president Pakistan Railways Employees Union, Haji Abdul Munaf, United Front of Teachers, Abbas Khan, President Secretariat Employees Association, Faridullah General Secretary, Audit and Account Employees Association, Rifakatullah president Drivers Association gathered in the school premises.
Later, the employees marched towards the provincial assembly building and staged a sit-in and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. The demonstrators were holding placard and banners calling for 100 percent increase in wage, medical and other allowances. 'We strongly condemned the proposed privatisation of different corporations', said a secretariat employee adding that the government should raise their salary in proportion to inflation in the country.
