The 73rd death anniversary of great poet and philosopher, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being observed throughout the country on Thursday (today). Quran Khawani will be held and special prayers to be offered for Allama Iqbal. One of the most prominent leaders of All India Muslim League, Allama Iqbal presented idea of the creation of a state for Muslims in 1930. Iqbal was a highly qualified person.
He started practicing law but mainly concentrated on writing scholarly works on politics, economics, history, philosophy and religion. He died on 21st April 1938 at the age of 60. To pay homage to the services of Allama Iqbal, special programmes, seminars, debate contests and other functions will be organised by various government and private organisations. The newspapers would publish special editions while TV channels would telecast special programmes.
Dr Allama Iqbal also known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan (The Thinker of Pakistan), Shair-e-Mashriq (The Poet of the East) and Hakeem-ul-Ummat (The Sage of Ummah). Iqbal was also a strong proponent of the political and spiritual revival of the Islamic civilisation across the world, particularly in South Asia. Iqbal's literary works are admired and adored even in the West - where prominent writers translated his manuscripts in multiple languages.
Bang-e-Dara, Baal-e-Jibrael, Zarb-e-Kaleem and Payam-e-Mashriq are some of his famous books. Among his 12,000 poem, about 7,000 poems are in Persian. In 1915, Iqbal's first collection of poetry, Asrar-e-Khudi (Secrets of the Self) in Persian was published. In Lahore, two main functions will be held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal and Alharma Hall. Veteran journalist Majeed Nizami would preside over the function.
