President, Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA), Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad inaugurated Punjab Chief Minister Summer Cricket League on Monday. The president LCCA said that the event would help in identifying talented player beside formulating performance-based criteria for the selection of Lahore's team to take part in PCB domestic tournaments.
"We have picked 15 grounds for the event to revive club cricket on the pattern of summer leagues of yesteryear," he added. Around 550 matches will be played during three to five month's time, he said. It may be noted that the affiliated three zones of LCCA have different pools to accommodate their respective teams in the league. East zone teams have been placed in six pools, West in six pools and North in five.
"From each zone, six top teams will qualify to play in the super league of the event and 40 players will be selected to form two Lahore's teams to get LCCA central contracts for which PCB will extend financial assistance in three categories of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000," Ahmed said. The LCCA Chief said Rs 3 million are required to organise CM summer League and they will be approaching the Punjab government to extend financial assistance besides seeking sponsorship from private sector on the same pattern of organising recently concluded Lahore Premier League.
