Flowers exhibition held

Government College University Lahore Horticulture Society Monday held the fresh flowers exhibition on the theme that 'flowers signify everything that is positive in this world like; life, beauty, love and happiness'.
Besides the GC University Lahore, the students from various colleges of Lahore including Kinnaird College, Government Gulberg College for Women, Islamia College and Fatima Jinnah College put on display the indigenous flowers decorated in stylish handmade baskets, pots and pans and blended the venue, GCU Abdus Salam Hall, in fragrantly vibrant and shining colours to appease the minds and hearts of flower lovers.
GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ikramul Haq opened the exhibition, saying that multifarious colours and fragrance have left him completely dazzled. "Flowers are the one of the most beautiful gift of the Allah Almighty to the mankind. They are the part and parcel of our life as these add colours, fragrance and beauty to our gardens, homes and all our social gatherings," he added.
Professor Ikramul Haq, a botanist, said that Pakistan has great potential to earn valuable foreign exchange through the export of indigenous flowers. He called on the GCU botanists to explore new varieties of roses and other followers with a view to boosting exports of flowers. The vice chancellor also highlighted the use of flowers in medicines.
GCU Botany Department Chairperson Dr Zaheerud Din said the flower arrangements at the exhibition are impressive in terms of creativity and aesthetically unique presentations.
Talking to media, the Kinnaird College students said that the art of floral arrangement has now grown into a big industry and there are now designer bouquets too that are high in cost and demand. The visitors and students appreciated the Horticulture Society for organising the exhibition, saying that it provided opportunity to enjoy the festivity of spring. Later, the vice chancellor gave away shields and certificates to the participants of the flower exhibition.
