The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) held its annual fund-raising programme with a view to spend donations on free counseling services, medical treatment, education, and vocational training and employment opportunities to persons with disabilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the LABARD President Pervaiz Malik MNA gave his report on under-construction vocational training and said the Pakistan's informal census indicates that about 2.49 percent of the total population consists of people with disabilities.
To help them lead fulfilling lives with dignity and respect, the businessmen of Lahore, with the support of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) have been working effortlessly in raising funds and taking an active part in the administration of LABARD.
Besides over 1000 personalities of the city, LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik, LCCI Senior Vice-President Sh. Mohammad Arshad, LABARD Senior Vice-President Mian Nusratuddin, Vice-President Farooq Naseem, Secretary General Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan, Joint Secretary Mohmmad Saeed Khan, Secretary Information Ahmer Malik, Imtiaz Ahmed, Naghmana Javed, Laila Nusratuddin and a large number of businessmen, government officials and bureaucrats attended the event.
Pervaiz Malik said that the LABARD has so far arranged jobs for hundreds of disabled persons and it is soon coming up with a state-of-the-art training center in Lahore where the disabled persons would not only be imparted with training in various faculties but arrangements would also be made for their placement in different organisations.
He said that a number of services being rendered by the LABARD included: medical assistance, counseling of mentally disabled persons, speech therapy, Qarz-e-Hasana and crutches, tricycles are being provided absolutely free of cost. The number of disabled persons who got themselves registered with the LABARD for availing these facilities is now in thousands, he added. Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik said that rehabilitation of disabled persons is a sacred job and everybody should come forward to play his role. He further said that the LCCI would continue to extend maximum support to LABARD and ensure maximum help for the early completion of LABARD Vocational Training Centre.-PR
