Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Federal Minister for Textile Industry said the issues facing textile sector will be resolved after due consultation with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. At a meeting with all the chairmen of industrial and trade associations at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Shahabuddin said textile sector is the backbone of economy and government cannot afford to ignore it.
He said that distribution of Sui Gas to the sector will be ensured across the board to avoid any unpleasant situation. He, however, said that these issues will be amicably resolved up to the entire satisfaction. In this regard, a meeting of all representatives of textile sector will be held in Islamabad in which ministry of petroleum and natural gas and other concerned authorities will be invited.
Chairman FCCI Export Committee and Executive Member, Zafar Iqbal Sarwar briefed the minister regarding serious issues being faced by the textile sector. He said that due to huge increase in the cost of production, electricity and gas tariff, Pakistan is facing loss of million of dollars in the shape of foreign exchange. He suggested that textile sector should be exempted from electricity and gas load-shedding.
In his address, Muhammad Naseer, Chairman FCCI Ad hoc Management Committee said that Faisalabad is a textile export-oriented city and has much importance and should be treated on priority basis. Regional Chairman, APTPMA, Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, Chairman, Sizing Association, Shakeel Ahmad Ansari, Former President, FCCI, Kh. Asem Khurshid, Sh. Muhammad Khalid Habib, Chairman, KIEA, Azhar Majeed Sheikh, Mian Aftab Ahmad, Rana Ikhlaq Ahmad, Adil Manzoor, Sh. Muhammad Bashir and other representatives of different associations highlighted the issues being faced by them. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mian Muhammad Latif and Zahid Aslam presented FCCI shields to the honourable guests.
