A lot is being opined and said, in the media, over the ongoing bloody protests and legitimate struggle of the people of Middle East and North Africa, for democracy.
Respect for individual human rights, abidance to rule of law, equal justice and opportunities for all, indecisiveness or at best, muted, confusing murmuring of the lame-duck and spineless Arab League, covert, self-serving support being extended to the West's selective action and/or, inaction to this widespread crises of unimaginable proportions, by some Gulf states, all fraught with dangerous ramifications, in the unchartered regional political dire straits, coupled with a faint glimmer of hope, aspirations for the emancipation of the oppressed people of the area, made a slave for centuries by the despicable dictators, despotic monarchists and bigoted Mullahs.
The Middle East political quagmire is also being alluded to in the so-called 'sectarian' dimension to the protests as in Bahrain, in particular. The anomaly of minority rule in the Middle East is not confined to Bahrain alone as a similar situation has existed in Syria, for decades, where the majority is ruled by a tiny ruthless and brutal minority of "Alawites" overtly and covertly supported by Iran. It is not a matter of the sectarian divide but the brutal subjugation of the people, regardless of allegiance to respective sects, which, among the Muslims, abound to staggering numbers!
The free and democratic world must not let down and fail the people of the Middle East and North Africa, subjugated, manipulated, denied of every basic human right and freedom, at this critical juncture in their wretched life. The brutal dictators, monarchists and mullahs, must not be allowed to succeed. If they succeed by the covert support of some self-serving governments, with sheer brute force at their disposal, humanity, freedom, wrenching individual aspirations and human dignity would succumb and die. It is time to decide and act.
