The meeting between the City District Government (CDGK) and associations of meat-sellers, which was expected to be held this week, looks uncertain, upon the death of Ismael Siddiqui General Secretary of the Meat Sellers Association. Officials of the city government told Business Recorder here on Monday that for weeks the CDGK was planning to address the issue of hike in meat prices, but this was put aside due to unexpected hike in milk prices.
Therefore, after resolving the issue of milk prices, meetings between the CDGK Enterprises and Investment (EIP) department and the meat selling associations were supposed to take place to settle the issue, the officials said. However, the death of Meat Selling Association General Secretary Ismael Siddiqui has supposedly postponed these meetings to further weeks, the official maintained Sources informed Business Recorder that Iasmael Siddiqui was shot dead in Lyari by the hands of "Bhatta Mafia," as Ismael Siddiqui refused to extortion money.
It should be informed here that the meat prices were raised in the wake of the shortage of animals available due to recent flooding as well as exportation of meat to Iran and other countries. The officials informed that they are in contact with the association; the dates would be confirmed after the "Soyem" of Ismael Siddiqui. While the CDGK has been successful in reinstating back the milk prices, it should be informed that it still lack magisterial powers to enforce penalties on profiteers.
