Commodities' prices move both ways: keeping in line with global trends
Wheat, Irri 6 Sindh, makai, barley, chemicals were higher, while the rest of the items kept low profile on the commodities wholesale markets, as global trading maintained similar posture during the week ended on March 19, 2011.
On Monday commodities prices were marked by uppish trend, as according to traders supplies were much less than the raid buyers made to buy. On the cereal side old and new wheat with bardana rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2800 and Rs 2815 grams from Australia rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2800 and Rs 5000, gram dal Australia rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5900 and Rs 6100, gram 50x50 low type rose by Rs 250 to Rs 5300, while better type rose by Rs 150 to Rs 5500, yellow pea from Canada low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3675, while better type gained Rs 100 to Rs 3875, yellow peas dal Canada low type rose by Rs 75 to Rs 4100, while superior rose by Rs 50 to Rs 4275, yellow peas Ukraine low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3575. While better type was up Rs 75 to Rs 3775, yellow peas dal Ukraine low type gained Rs 125 to Rs 4050, while better type gained Rs 100 to Rs 4225, bajra low type picked up Rs 25 to Rs 2500, while the better type stayed put at Rs 2900. Cottonseed cakes with bag inferior conceded Rs 25 to Rs 1325, while better type stayed put at Rs 1380, Irri 6 Sindh low type was put at Rs 3300, while better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3375.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items rangolite (chemicals) per pound India was quoted at Rs 87, acetic acid Taiwan rose by Rs 1.20 to Rs 79.20, Korea rose by Rs 2 to Rs 76. Hydrogen Peroxide Descon 50 PC ended with Rs 7 to Rs 59, Sitara lost Rs 7 to Rs 59, Taiwan 35pc was quoted at Rs 60, Korea 5pc shed Rs 4.20 to Rs 61.60, while Thailand shed Rs 2 to Rs 63.
On Tuesday rapeseeds Dadulane shed Rs 50 to Rs 1950-2000, rapeseed Mirpur lost Rs 11 to Rs 2025 and Rs 2035, rapeseed cakes lost Rs 10 to Rs 860 and Rs 870. Til lost sharply by Rs 300 to Rs 3500 and Rs 3800, castorseed Lasbela was quoted at Rs 2100 and Rs 2200, castorseed Sindh lost Rs 100 to Rs 2000, cottonseed cakes with bag Sindh low type lost Rs 50 to Rs 1375, while low type was unchanged at Rs 1325.
On Wednesday Irri 6 Sindh rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3325 and Rs 3400, Irri white broken recorded at Rs 2900, makai low type rose by Rs 125, while better type gained Rs 88 to Rs 3025, barley rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2900, wheat old with bardana (old crop) traded at Rs 2800, wheat new with bardana was quoted at Rs 2815, wheat old bardana new crop at Rs 2700 and wheat new with bardana new crop registered at Rs 2710. Gur low type was unchanged at Rs 5400, while better type was higher by Rs 200 to Rs 6400. Cotton seed cakes with bag low type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1350, while better type was put at Rs 1375.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi rose by Re 1 to Rs 48, sodium sulphate quoted at Rs 14.50 N.J. Taiwan rose by Rs 50 to Rs 22, formic acid Germany rose by Re 1 to Rs 106, Oxaline acid China rose by Rs 10 to Rs 120.
On Thursday prices were not available owing to markets remaining closed on account of Giarahween Sharif.
On Friday not a single change in the rates was seen, as participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday many changes were seen, as buyers showed interest in fresh deals. Gur low type was higher by Rs 100 to Rs 5500 and best type was unchanged at Rs 6000. Wheat old crop bardana lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2750, wheat new old crop bardana followed the same pattern, losing same amount to Rs 2765, wheat old bardana shed the same amount to Rs 2650 and wheat old bardana new crop also came under pressure, shedding same amount to Rs 2665, other items maintained the overnight levels. Only variation was seen on grams sector, where grams 50x50 dropped by Rs 200 to Rs 5100-5300 due to steady arrivals. Rapeseeds Nawabshah low type gained Rs 50 to Rs 2000 and best type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 2025, rapeseeds Mirpurlane low type maintained its overnight level at Rs 2025, while the best type rose by Rs 15 to Rs 2050, rapeseeds cakes shed Rs 10 to Rs 850-860 and cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh low type shed Rs 25 to Rs 1325, while the good type posted fresh gain of equal amount to Rs 1400. Prices were unmoved on the rice sector.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items ended down. The changes were: KIRANA ITEMS (Per 40 kg): White pepper was quoted at Rs 28,000, mace edged lower by Rs 1000 to Rs 88,000 and dry ginger (China) moved downward by Rs 300 to Rs 15,200.
