Taiwan's Acer, the world's second-largest PC vendor, expects to achieve at least 30 percent growth in Russian sales this year, driven by new products such as tablet computers and smartphones. Acer CIS General Manager Gleb Mishin told Reuters Acer produced an estimated $1.3 billion of products for sale in Russia last year.
"30 percent growth target for 2011 is the minimum, it may be even more. Everything will depend on how successfully we will launch our tablet," Mishin said in an interview.
"Priority number one for 2011 is our range of tablet computers - those are new products and we have to succeed in launching them and sell a lot," he said. Acer last year unveiled a range of tablet computers to help it compete with Apple Inc's iPad, and plans to sell 500,000 of them in Eastern Europe - half of that in Russia.
Overall sales of Acer's tablets are seen at 5-7 million this year, Chief Executive Gianfranco Lanci told Reuters last month. "The second most important product segment are smartphones, which is a strategic area for our company not only in Russia," Mishin said. "Last year we were selling two models in Russia and sold some $120 million of smartphones. This year we will sell almost two times more smartphones... and the range will widen to 5-8 models," he said.
