Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Munawwar Hassan said the JI-led 'Go America Go' movement would continue and the Friday's procession is just beginning. He was talking exclusively to Business Recorder before addressing the rally condemning the government for letting Raymond Davis, a former Special Forces soldier, to walk free.
"The demonstrations would continue, as the Additional District & Session Judge Yousuf Aujla, relatives of three victims and the PML-N leadership has yet to face the public," he said, adding: "The PML-N would have to clear its position, as both Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sana Ullah have been taking strong position on the issue."
On JI's collaboration with Imran Khan, he said Imran has been calling him for joint struggle in the past and we have agreed to support each other in Lahore and Rawalpindi demonstrations. "But it requires detailed working on modalities before entering into an alliance," he added.
When asked whether the JI was going to produce another Nawaz Sharif for the nation in the shape of Imran Khan, he said the dilemma of Imran is that he had failed to present any important person second to him so far and he can only win 100 seats across the country out of her charismatic personality, which is not enough to control the Parliament.
It was the third day of demonstrations. The ruling was issued by a court in the eastern city of Lahore on Wednesday after heirs of the two victims he shot dead in late January accepted blood money in accordance with Islamic law. The activists from various opposition political groups and Islamist parties took to the streets after Friday prayers across the country, chanting slogans against the United States and calling Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari an American stooge.
The PTI workers scuffled with photojournalists, tried to enter the premises of Punjab assembly but dispersed peacefully later on. There were variable estimates about the number of protestors ranging in between 3000 to 5000 on the Mall Road. The PTI, JI and Jamat ud Dawa workers were carrying their respective flags and placards with slogans including 'shoot us, we are beggars'. They chanted slogans against central and Punjab government and demanded death for Yousuf Aujla. A good number of lawyers were also present in the procession. Foreign media Journalists kept on recording the comments of protestors on cameras throughout the event. Demonstrators also burnt US flags on the occasion.
