National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has succeeded in resolving 205,923 complaints pertaining to Watan Cards in effective and transparent manner by using Complaints Redressal System, said Tariq Malik, Deputy Chairman NADRA here on Thursday.
The people who were declared eligible and legitimate beneficiaries after hearing have received the cash assistance like other watan card holders, Malik said while talking to the media. He said that the government has distributed over Rs 28.8 billion among 1.527 million flood-affected families out of 1.6 million estimated initially. He said that 95 percent of legitimate beneficiaries have got cash assistance.
He said NADRA has received 175,548 and 215,506 complaints from flood-affected people who are facing different problems in getting watan cards in Punjab and Sindh respectively out of which 74,490 complaints from Punjab and 131,433 complaints from Sindh were found genuine and resolved, while 185,131 complaints were rejected on duplication or on basis of ineligibility. Some of the complainants had possession of watan cards and some didn't belong to the flood affected area.
He said NADRA has set a global example in helping people and giving them a mechanism for disbursement of cash assistance transparently. The Complaint Redressal System's objective was to address the beneficiaries' genuine complaints, enabling them to get registered for watan cards, he added.
He said that throughout the process NADRA ensured strong checks in the software so that only deserving families belonging to provincially notified calamity-hit areas could obtain watan cards. He said that NADRA issued 608,825 watan cards in Punjab to disburse Rs 11.977 billion. In Sindh, the number of watan cards issued was 594,951 with a disbursed amount of Rs 10.689 billion. Whereas, in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the number of watan cards issued stood at 106,488 and 203,593 with disbursed amount of Rs 1, 955,900,947 and Rs 3,956,921,491 respectively, he added.
He said that in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, 3,587 and 10,475 cards were issued, disbursing Rs 63,217,500 and Rs 200,784,500 respectively. "National Disaster Management Authority estimated around 1.6 million families affected by flood, and we have given watan cards to over 1.527 million, which means we have done around 95 percent of our job," Malik said.
