The meeting between DCO Karachi and milk sellers regarding the recent hike in milk prices, was postponed as the wholesalers did not show up, sources told Business Recorder on Thursday. Sources said that the Karachi Dairy Farmers' Association were absent from the meeting, therefore, the meeting would now take place on Saturday.
According to sources the Association has proposed Rs 70.87 per litre milk price, whereas, the City Government has suggested milk price of Rs 59 per litre. According to the CDGK suggestion, Rs 49.05 per litre is a production cost of milk, therefore, for the producers Rs 52 per litre shall be its selling price with a profit of Rs 2.95 per litre. For the wholesalers, the per litre milk price should be Rs 54 with a profit of Rs 2.
The proposal further suggests that the retailers should sell milk at Rs 59 per litre. Sources said that Consumer Rights Council has proposed prices of milk at Rs 49.56 per litre. Meanwhile, the DCO has directed the Dairy Farmers' Association to set prices as prescribed by the City Government failing to which strict action would be taken against them.
