Traders hold protest rally

Published Updated

Traders organised an impressive rally on Thursday which began from Wali Muhammad Mosque in Chowk Bazar led by Khalid Mehmood Qureshi and Jafar Shah. More than 300 people joined it. They were shouting slogans against the United States, Pakistani rulers. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans "down with America," down with Zardari," We do not accept the sell-out, Why Davis was not sentenced in illicit arms case".
The rally concluded at Hussain Agahi Chowk. Students of local educational institutions Thursday protested release of a US national Raymond Davis, after victims' families had allegedly patched up the matter for blood money. They blocked the Gulgasht road at gole bagh chowk 2 hours.
The protest was led by Islami Jamiat Talaba and was attended by at least 100 students who carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the USA. Another demonstration was jointly organised by Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Jamiat, Pasban and Shabab-i-Milli in front of Multan Press Club.
The JI leaders announced to observe the protest day on March 18 (Friday) across the country. Local lawyers boycotted their professional duties and avoided to join the court proceedings as a protest against abstaining a lawyer Aasad Manzoor (a counsel of deceased families) from joining the court proceedings in Kot Lakhpat prison. At the call of Punjab Bar Council, High Court and District Bar observed strike and held protest meetings here on Thursday.
