Brazilian Ambassador to Pakistan, Alfredo Leoni has pledged to promote and enhance bilateral trade relations between Brazil and Pakistan. Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Wednesday, he said the main reason to visit Sialkot was not just to promote commercial ties between the two countries but also disseminate a clear message that Brazil Embassy will extend all possible support and co-operation to the business community for doing business with Brazil.
Brazil has become a major international player, he said. The ambassador mentioned that Brazil donated 1.2 million dollars to flood victims of Pakistan last year. He said that during 2010 Brazil's exports reached 201 billion US dollars and import 181 billion dollars adding that Brazil is the largest commercial partner of Pakistan in Latin America and our balance of trade is 400 million US dollars. Major Brazil export to Pakistan include sugar, cotton, plastic, iron and steel etc while major Brazil imports from Pakistan include textile and surgical items, soccer balls and manicure instruments etc, he disclosed.
In his welcome address, President SCCI Ghulam Mustafa Choudary said that the visit of Ambassador of Brazil to this export-oriented city would result in promoting better understanding and strengthening mutual trade relations between business communities of both the countries. There is huge potential of trade between Pakistan and Brazil, he said. The president SCCI further said that efforts at government level were being made to enhance trade between the two countries.
