Interior Ministry has revealed before Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the Ministry has received terror threats to take lives of political leaders including JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former Information Minister Shehr Bano Rehman (Sherry Rehman) MNA.
Secretary Ministry of Interior, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry told the meeting held here on Wednesday with Riaz Hussain Pirzada in the chair. He said that intelligence report received by the Ministry during the information sharing revealed that there lives of these political leaders, besides several federal ministers are in danger.
The PAC Special committee was informed that the Interior Ministry has informed the Prime Minister's Secretariat about the contents of the Intelligence report and accordingly the Prime Minister Secretariat informed the said federal ministers and leaders to beef up their security.
Qamar Zaman also informed the Committee that the Ministry has also informed the ministers and directed them through Cabinet division to keep security with them all the time. He said that the ministers, receiving life threats are fully co-operating.
Responding to the questions of the Parliamentarians regarding the investigation in assassination of slain Minority Affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, Secretary Interior said that investigation of assassination case of Shahbaz Bhatti is in progress while police have succeeded in arresting a person in this regard.
Police have arrested a suspect regarding Shabaz Bhatti assassination case and important information was obtained from him, which will help investigators to move in the right direction.
He further said that Shahbaz Bhatti was going to his mother's house and did not permit police and security guards to come with him. Replying to a question raised by Committee member Asia Nasir Interior Secretary said that Shahbaz Bhatti was provided complete security and two vehicles of security guards were deployed with him but on that day the minister himself asked the guards not to accompany him.
He further said that the deployed guards did not report to headquarter in this regard. The Audit officials informed the Committee that independent institutions were saying they are self-sufficient while the government is running on loans.
