SWWB distributes Rs 124.2 million of death grants to heirs

The Sindh Workers Welfare Board (SWWB) has given Rs 124.200 million of death grants to heirs of expired workers during 2009, besides total Rs 117.289 million of scholarships to the workers' children during 2009-10, Sindh Labour Minister, Amir Nawab told Sindh Assembly on Monday.
Answering questions during the session with Nisar Khohro in chair, the provincial labour minister pointed out that SWWB had distributed Rs 116.587 million of scholarships amongst the children of employees of Sindh Workers Welfare Board and Rs 0.711 million of scholarships amongst the children of workers of mines labour welfare organisation during 2009-10.
In a break-up, he said, Rs 56.658 million of scholarships SWWB have been distributed in Karachi, Rs 12.505 million in Hyderabad, Rs 12.804 million in Jamshoro, Rs 2.916 million in Thatta, Rs 1.564 million in Sanghar, Rs 4.272 million in Mirpurkhas, Rs 5.416 million in Badin, Rs 3.405 million in Shaheed Benazirabad, Rs 0.282 million in Nousheroferoz, Rs 3.276 million in Tando Muhammad Khan, Rs 1.428 million in Matiari, Rs 1.428 million in Tando Allahyar, Rs 0.402 million in Tharparkar, Rs 0.424 million in Sukkur, Rs 3.620 million in Ghotki, Rs 0.012 million in Khairpur, Rs 0.153 million in Qmabar - Shahdadkot and Rs 1.279 million in Larkana.
He added that Rs 0.680 million of scholarship in Jamshoro and Rs 0.031 million in Karachi had been given to the children of workers of mines labour welfare organisation between January 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010. The minister maintained SWWB had distributed Rs 56.500 million of death grants amongst the heirs of deceased in Karachi, Rs 5.700 million in Hyderabad, Rs 19.700 million in Jamshoro, Rs 3 million in Mirpurkhas, Rs 0.600 million in Sanghar, Rs 2.100 million in Thatta, Rs 1.800 million in Badin. Rs 0.600 million in Matiari, Rs 1.800 million in Tando Allahyar, Rs 3.300 million in Tando Muhammad Khan, Rs 1.500 million in Shaheed Benazirabad, Rs 0.900 million in Tharparkar, Rs 0.300 million in Sukkur, Rs 5.00 million in Ghotki, Rs 1.400 million in Khairpur, Rs 2.00 million in Larkana, Rs 0.500 million in Qambar - Shahdad Kot, and Rs 0.900 million in Shikarpur.
He said there were more than 31 brick kilns functional in Sindh province, which were, registered Marriage Lodge, "Kloi", "Wingo", and adjacent areas of district Tharparkar. He added that his department inspectors had received no reports of working women and children or forced labours in these kilns.
Amir Nawab also said that his department inspectors had given no reports about forced labour in Sukkur, as they always visited the area factories in line with the labour laws. He said the department could not distribute sewing machines for the last two years because of funds shortage, however had distributed 6300 machines amongst workers during 2008.
