Mutahidda Mahaz Bahawalpur Chief Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani has urged Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to come up with a clear vision on Saraiki province within next 48 hours, besides announcing the territorial boundaries of the Saraiki province.
"If the PM tried to compromise the longstanding demand of revival of Bahawalpur province with Saraiki province he should be ready to face the public wrath," Durrani said while addressing a press conference here on Monday. Durrani said rather than coming up with a specific announcement on the public demand for new provinces, the premier had made another promise to the already deprived people of the neglected areas of Punjab. He was of the view that the government should have announced the revival of Bahawalpur province even prior to the announcement of provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan.
"The people of Bahawalpur are no more ready to provide their lands as a hunting ground for the ruling elite from Multan or Lahore. I raised the voice for creation of a separate province comprising Multan, DG Khan and Layyah," he added. He reminded the prime minister of his commitment of revival of Bahawalpur province made during the by-election of NA 184.
He also criticised Gilani's announcement to make the new provinces a part of next election manifesto of the ruling party, saying that he wanted to win the next elections by making another false promise. Senator Durrani also asked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the loot sale' of Bahawalpur state lands, as the people of Bahawalpur expect that the executive head of the province would provide justice to them through suspension and cancellation of such auction in the already underdeveloped area. He termed the sale of 39 state properties as a mega corruption scam the country had ever seen, as the actual cost of the lands including seven rest houses was Rs 20 billion but it was sold for a paltry Rs 850 million.
