A division bench of Lahore High Court here Tuesday (today) will take up a petition challenging appointment of Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab, Rana Zahid Mehmood. On Monday, the bench taking up the petition had directed the petitioner's counsel, Azhar Siddique to file it afresh along with the impugned notification and other necessary documents regarding the appointment of the DG NAB.
The lawyer had pleaded that appointment of Zahid Mehmood was made on contract in violation of rules and regulations and the step by the government was illegal and unlawful and liable to be declared null and void. He further pleaded that the appointment of the respondent was a violation of judgement of Supreme Court and the constitution of Pakistan. He also said that the respondent was removed as a judge from Lahore High Court following a landmark judgement of the apex court on a petition of Sindh High Court Bar Association. The petitioner, therefore, prayed to the court to declare the appointment as unconstitutional.
