Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani has said that road accident is the second biggest cause of casualties in the world, which needs attention to avoid life losses.
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) should make every possible effort to control road accidents in the Federal Capital in co-operation with citizens by inculcating traffic sense among them through various informative programs, Durrani said while opening the week-long awareness campaign of ITP here on Monday.
The ITP launched substantial road safety awareness drive with main focus to educate motorists about pedestrians' rights and also to ensure their protection by demonstrating patience during driving. The week-long campaign of ITP is being supported by Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd and Suzuki Azeem Motors Islamabad.
SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood, SPs Mir Vais Niaz, Farhat Abbass Kazmi, police officials and representatives of Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd were also present on the occasion. The IGP said that he has reviewed the performance of ITP after assuming the charge and its performance is very much satisfactory. ITP has succeeded in ensuring safe road environment in the city within a very short span of time. Volunteers of ITP, its education team and students of various educational institutions along with representatives of Pak Suzuki Motors Company Ltd will remain present at various important locations and boulevards of the city through out the week to educate road users about traffic rules.
