Chicken meat prices fell by Rs 30 per Kg in a day after surplus supply and less demand of the poultry products in the metropolis here on Monday. Chicken meat was sold at Rs 155 to Rs 160 per kilogram in various parts of the sprawling city against yesterday's (Sunday) retail price of Rs 185 to Rs 190 per KG.
Talking to Business Recorder former Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association Abdul Basit said the decrease in chicken meat prices by such a large margin from Rs 210 per KG to Rs 155 in a week is a gift to the consumers from the PPA. He said the consumers should appreciate that whereas prices of other consumer goods specially food items are increasing and going beyond the reach of the common man, poultry farmers have decreased prices of their products to make them affordable for larger segment of the consumers. However mutton and meat market analysts say chicken prices surge during the marriage seasons and religious celebrations/functions in the country. Once the marriage season is over, demand of chicken drops bring down the prices.
