Canada paceman Rizwan Cheema was given an official reprimand by World Cup organisers on Sunday after bowling beamers in their 97-run defeat by New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. The incident took place on the fifth ball of New Zealand's 50th and final over when Cheema bowled a full toss above waist height, an International Cricket Council (ICC) statement said.
As he had previously received a first and final warning on the fifth ball of the 40th over for a similar delivery, he was immediately ordered to be taken out of the attack by umpire Bruce Oxenford.
He received the reprimand for conduct "contrary to the spirit of the game" for the deliveries which are known in the sport as "beamers" and considered dangerous to the batsmen as well as unfair play.
