The Government College University Lahore Endowment Fund Trust (GCU EFT) has given away scholarships of Rs 1.529 million to as many as 28 needy and talented students of the University for their complete one-year academic and hostel expenses.
GCU EFT Executive Committee Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said that the scholarships, donated by Old Ravians, have been given purely one merit after the interview of candidates by the seven-member GCU Financial Aid Committee headed by Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies Chairperson Dr Sultan Shah.
He said the scholarships range from minimum Rs 21,000 to Rs 0.1 million depending upon the fee and academic expenses of the student. He said that all students have been given pay orders of their scholarship money so that they can continue their studies without any financial worry.
He said that those who won the scholarships are Imran Fida, Aftab Akram, Bushra Zafar, Marrium Rashid, Gull-eZahra, Rehmat Ali, H. Muhammad Sohail, Syed. M Awais Abid, M Wali, Zunair Talat, M. Usman Yaqoob, M. Qasim Bhatti, Syed Imran Haider, M. Farhad Malik, Saleem Khan, Hassam Ullah Shami, Sajida Shaheen, M. Nazir Farooq, Hafiz Ghzanfar Watoo, Luqman Miraj, Haris Ali Khan, Babar Ali, Fazeelat Ishaq, Saba Sajjad, Haroon ur Rashid, Abdul Nasir. Dr Butt said that the Endowment Fund would soon announce more scholarships for the needy students.
GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ikramul Haq requested the philanthropists and old Ravians to support the GCU Endowment Fund, so that more and more students belonging to low-income families can complete their education. He said that GCU is also providing scholarships to needy students from its own budget.
