Baizai Irrigation Scheme (BIS) will irrigate 25,000 acres land in Mardan and Malakand districts, which will help in development of agriculture sector and betterment of the peasants, besides creating economic activities in the area. This was stated in a briefing to Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti regarding the progress on the BIS project in a meeting here on Saturday.
Project Director BIS briefed the CM about the scheme. The meeting was attended by secretaries of P&D, Finance and Irrigation departments, and project Director BIS. The scheme will irrigate 5000 acres land of Malakand and 20,000 acres of district Mardan. The total length of the main canal is more than 39 kilometres.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister termed the scheme an important step towards agricultural self-sufficiency, saying due to its importance and utility there will be no hurdle in provision of resources for it, he added. He underlined the need of qualitative construction work on bridges, roads and other infrastructure. He issued directives to Wapda, Sui Gas and other federal departments for minimising people problems.
Hoti said that the provincial government would provide Rs 100 million for continuity in work on BIS while efforts would be made to secure funds for the project from the federal government. Meanwhile, chairing another meeting regarding farm to market road, the chief minister stressed speedy work on under construction roads and made it clear that quality of work would not be compromised. People behind using substandard material will be dealt strictly, he warned.
Project Director FMR and Representatives C&W also attended the meeting. Presiding another meeting at CM Secretariat, the chief minister stated that federal department must pace up efforts for solution to problems confronting the people. Developmental schemes under different departments were also reviewed in detail on the occasion and important decisions were taken.
